What comes to your mind when you hear the name India? Taj Mahal? Filthy, congested city streets? Tigers in the wild? Spicy food? Or overcrowded buses and trains? Or "all of the above"? Some people just want to summarize in one word, "Exotic".
For me, an Indian living abroad for thirty years but who was born and brought up in India and who lived in India for forty years, it is very difficult to say in one word what comes to my mind when I hear "India". It is a mixed feeling. I probably hate India more than I love it, but still I miss some of the things.
The things presented in this Web site is India as I see it or India as I remember it! Of course, the three things common Indians (including myself) love most - Indian movies, cricket, and travel - form a substantial part of this site. I was and I still am crazy about these things. I still see Hindi or Bollywood movies whenever I get a chance. I plan to include more information about Indian food, fashion, yoga, meditation, and ayurveda in near future. Useful links are already in place in the Resources page.
To me India is a lot of things. Basically it is a land of extremes, a land of contrasts. But then again most of these contrasts and extremes co-exist peacefully. (An Australian gentleman once told me how amused he was to see high-tech fiber-optic cables were being laid in Bangalore in a most low-tech way - by digging with shovels!)
The things presented in this Web site are both India in an insider's view and India in an outsider's view! If you are not Indian you will find a lot of interesting information in this site.
One thing is sure. If you have not been to India, you owe yourself a visit there. The country is nothing like any other place you have been to.
Please don't miss my blogs and commentaries presented in this site. They are amusing, informative, and honest. You will find a lot of information in these not found in text books or travel books!
