Since the country's forts are important monuments and speaks a lot about the country's history, The Indian Posts and Telegraph department has issued a series of stamps in 1984 called Forts of India. Below are the four stamps of this series. Click on the stamp image to see a bigger picture of the fort or to learn more about the fort. Ask your travel agent to include some of these forts in your India travel itinerary.
Besides the above forts, Red Fort, Delhi, Agra Fort, Amber Fort of Jaipur (which houses the Amber Palace), Jaisalmer Fort, Chittorgarh Fort, and Ranthambore Fort are other renowned forts to name a few. The state of Rajasthan alone has so many forts to see. If you ever visit India, you MUST try to visit at least some these forts that are either shown or named on this page.

India has many forts, I mean many forts. They are scattered all over India. Most of them were built hundreds of years ago, by different rulers of the region and time. Anybody touring India must see at least some of them. It is practically impossible for a tourist to visit India without seeing some of its majestic and historic forts.
