Kanyakumari got its name from a small temple, Kanyakumari Temple, that stands right on the shore on the confluence of the three seas. It was in Kanyakumari where the great spiritual leader Swami Vivekananda spent days in meditation on a rock off of the coast. A memorial built in his honor is accessible by ferry and it has been featured on an Indian postage stamps.
The following is an old Indian stamp showing a plane flying over Kanyakumari.
The state of Kerala is a tourist paradise. Kerala has the highest literacy rate in the country (100%). It is a very green state. Lush vegetation is everywhere. The backwaters of Kerala is one of the attractions of the state. One can take a boat ride along these waterways. Coconut palm trees on both sides of the waterways indeed present a lovely scene.
Among the many attractions of Kerala, Kovalam Beach comes near the top. The following Indian stamp features Kovalam Beach.
Kerala also has a concentration of renowned Ayurvedic treatment centers. For those interested in Ayurvedic treatment, whether for relaxation and rejuvenation or for treatment of chronic illnesses, I have included some links to Ayurvedic treatment centers here.
